More like Blue Magic than Blue Motion!
"What are they talking about?" I hear you say! No I'm not talking about viagra, the french rugby team (who hopefully will be victorious on Saturday) or even our fabulous Somerset blues. This blog post is all about our fish pump - too be more specific, a blue motion p16 - 8 inch vacuum fish pump
Delivered by lorry all the way from Denmark this is a serious bit of kit! It allows us to pump fish without damaging them out of a pond and onto our slide grader (see previous blog post for info). The fish are sucked from the pond in an 8 inch diameter pipe, this is full of water so the fish are happy! The fish and water are sucked into one of two counter-levered chambers at the top of the fish pump, as one is pressurised (or filling), the other is depressed and the fish and water gently released.
The fish are then separated from the water (so as not to drown the grader operator!) by being passed across a gridded floor (beautifully simple)! The fish remain out of water for less than a second as they are dropped into the grader box. There is a reoccurring theme to this machine, one of simplicity! Initially annoyed by the fact that something so expensive could be so simple, we are now coming to the realisation that simplicity also means reliability!
